Former Rogue Pictures co-president Andrew Rona has been confirmed as the new president of Joel Silver's Warner Bros-based Silver Pictures.

Rona will also join Steve Richards as co-president of Silver's genre banner Dark Castle Entertainment and starts work in his dual post in January 2009.

Silver Pictures is currently in production on Sherlock Holmes directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and Mark Strong, and The Book Of Eli starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman.

Upcoming Dark Castle films include the horror thriller Orphan starring Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard, the thriller Whiteout starring Kate Beckinsale, horror film The Factory starring John Cusack, and James McTeigue's action title Ninja Assassin, which Silver is producing with Andy and Larry Wachowski.

Over the past three years Rona has overseen such hits as Hot Fuzz and The Strangers. Prior to Rogue he was at Miramax and helped launch the Dimension Films label, working on the Scream and Spy Kids franchises as well as Sin City.

'I could not imagine a more perfect fit for our company than Andrew,' Silver said. 'He brings a wealth of experience, a well-honed production sense and proven market savvy to both Silver Pictures and Dark Castle, and I look forward to working with him to create a wide range of original and entertaining film projects.'

'I have been an admirer of Joel's for years and am excited at the prospect of finally working alongside the man behind some of the films that made me want to be in this business,' Rona said. 'When it comes to movie-making, we share similar sensibilities - especially a love of making audiences jump - so I'm looking forward to getting started on a new film slate with Joel and his team and everyone at Warner Bros.'
