Maria Peters’ Sonny Boy will represent The Netherlands in the Foreign Language Oscar race.

The filmwas selected by an independent committee of Dutch film professionals.

Peters also wrote the script (adapted from the bestselling novel by Annejet van der Zijl), which is about a Dutch mother of four who falls in love with a Surinamese man 17 years her junior.

Sonny Boy is produced by Hans Pos and Dave Schram of Shooting Star Filmcompany in co-production with Ester.Reglin.Film (Germany) and Menuet (Belgium).

The cast features Ricky Koole, Sergio Hasselbank, Marcel Hensema and Micha Hulshof.

A-Film handles local distribution.

The Oscar nominees will be unveiled on Jan 24..
