Plummer, who earned a Golden Globe supporting actor nomination for Beginners on Thursday (15), will be the subject of a tribute by the Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF) when he collects the Modern Master Award on Jan 28.
The Canadian actor (pictued in Beginners) joins a group of prior recipients that includes Michael Douglas, Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Sean Penn, Cate Blanchett and Christopher Nolan.
“My fondest memories of going to the movies and the theatre involve Mr Plummer and I’m so grateful he’s agreed to this honour,” SBIFF executive director Roger Durling said. “He is one of the greatest and most cherished ones – and he gave us his best in Beginners.”
Plummer will next be seen in David Fincher’s English language remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which opens on Dec 21 in the US through Sony.
