All five films are debut features, including first 3D film in Tiger selection.
The International Film Festival Rotterdam has revealed the first five films selected for its annual Tiger Awards Competition.
They are:
Anka and Wilhelm Sasnal’s It Looks Pretty from A Distance (Z Daleka Widok Jest Piekny), a Poland-US co-production about the darker sides of country life in Poland one summer.
Midi Z’s Return to Burma (Gui Lai De Ren) is a contemporary drama about Burmese daily life produced between Burma and Taiwan.
Eduardo Nunes’ Southwest (Sudoeste) from Brazil (which has previously been supported by IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund) is a black and white fantasy set in a seaside town.
Park Hong-min’s A Fish (Mulgogi) from South Korea,is an absurdist tale and the first Tiger competitor in 3D.
Huang Ji’s Egg and Stone (Jidan He Shitou), a Chinese drama about an adolescent girl in the Hunan province (world premiere.)
The Tiger awards are for first or second features, and all of the above are debut films.
Three Tiger Awards worth €15,000 each, will be voted on by a jury.
The Tiger Competition will include about 15 films in total.
