Fox’s 3D re-release records the distributor’s biggest ever opening day in the territory.

James Cameron’s 3D re-release of Titanic has sailed its way to an extraordinary $11.6m (RMB73m) on its opening day in China.

The result is distributor Fox’s biggest ever opening day in China and could end up being higher once all Tuesday’s theatre grosses are tabulated. It played on 2,400 screens and grossed $1m from 64 IMAX theatres, tying with Transformers : Dark Of The Moon for the bigest IMAX opening day in China.

It missed out on becoming the biggest ever opening day in China, a record that still belongs to the $15.9m taken by Transformers: Dark Of The Moon.

Combined with its other territories, Titanic 3D has made $53.1m internationally and $81m worldwide.
