In total, there are six first films out of twenty in the line up which are thus eligible for the Camera d'Or. Heavy with five French films, UCR has four from the US and five from the rest of Europe.
Of note is the return of Leos Carax - to filmmaking and to the Croisette - with the triptych Tokyo! , co-directed by Michel Gondry and Bong Joon-Ho. Carax was last in Cannes when his Pola X ran in competition in 1999.
James Toback will be on hand with his documentary Tyson about the legendary boxer Mike Tyson while Mexican director Amat Escalante, who took the FIPRESCI prize in 2005 for Sangre, will debut his second effort, Los Bastardos in UCR.
And, although the film was left off the official press release on Wednesday morning, Abel Ferrara's Chelsea On The Rocks, with Ethan Hawke, Dennis Hopper and Adam Goldberg, is also screening in the sidebar.
