EXCLUSIVE: Canadian sales outfit Attraction Distribution (formerly Delphis Films) has gobbled up world sales rights to much hyped doc Dragon Girls [pictured], winner of the Best International Feature Documentary at Hot Docs in Toronto earlier this month.
Directed by Inigo Westmeier, the film tells the story of three young girls in a 26,000 student boarding school who try to become kung fu experts, studying at the Shaolin Tagu Kung Fu school, in their bid to fight their way out of poverty.
Attraction Distribution has already signed on KinoSmith to handle the Canadian distribution of the film, and claims to have received offers for US distribution.
This is the company’s first Cannes Market under its new name. (It switched from Delphis to Attraction last autumn.) Along with Dragon Girls, the company’s Marché slate also includes Vincent Bal’s The Zigzag Kid starring Isabella Rossellini (winner of the European Film Academy Young Audience Award last week) and Germany’s box office success Windstorm.
All three films will be screened at the Market.
