Strong showing for US independents with Lee Daniels, Jeff Nichols, Andrew Dominik and John Hillcoat in competition alongside Cannes stalwarts like Haneke, Cronenberg, Reygadas, Loach.

The Cannes Film Festival unveiled its Official Selection on Thursday morning in Paris.

As previously announced, Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom will open the festival on May 16 and the late Claude Miller’s last feature Thérèse Desqueyroux will close the festival on May 27.

Out Of Competition titles will include Madagascar 3 and Bertolucci’s Lo E Te.

The parallel selections of Critics’ Week and Directors’ Fortnight will be unveiled on next Monday and Tuesday respectively.
