Zac Efron and Amber Heard have signed on to IM Global’s Europe-set car chase thriller Autobahn.
Welcome To The Punch director Eran Creevy will take the reins on the story of an American backpacker who must protect his girlfriend and flee Europe after he ends up as a driver for German drug smugglers.
Creevy and F Scott Frazier wrote the screenplay and 42’s Ben Pugh and Rory Aitken will produce alongside Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones. Chris Cowles and Chris Fenton of H2F will serve as executive producers.Production is set to commence in the autumn in Germany.
Efron is currently shooting the comedy Townies for Universal opposite Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne and will next be seen in the rom-com Are We Officially Dating? and drama Parkland.
Heard’s upcoming credits include the corporate espionage thriller Paranoia with Liam Hemsworth and Harrison Ford, Three Days To Kill with Kevin Costner and Machete Kills.
IM Global CEO Stuart Ford negotiated with CAA, manager Jason Barrett and attorney Patti Felker for Efron and WME Entertainment, manager Geyer Kosinski and attorney Karl Austen for Heard. CAA arranged financing and represents US rights.
