Critics Week hit Snowtown has now landed another deal, with IFC Midnight taking all North American rights
Protagonist is selling the film, which is Justin Kurzel’s feature debut, produced by the new Warp Films Australia.
Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, said: “Snowtown is a phenomenal debut film that announces Justin Kurzel as a major new voice. We are thrilled to introduce him to American audiences and happy to continue our relationship with Protagonist Pictures after In The Loop and our upcoming release Kill List.”
The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions & Productions, and Jeff Deutchman, Manager of Acquisitions & Productions, for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Ben Roberts, CEO of Protagonist Pictures, on behalf of the filmmakers.
The story, based on an actual case, is about a teenage boy who falls under the spell of a father figure who turns out to be a serial killer.
Earlier this week, Revolver won the bidding war to release the film in the UK. Snowtown won a special mention from the Critics’ Week jury.
IFC Midnight’s sister outfit Sundance selects also picked up a number of Cannes titles: Sleeping Beauty, House of Tolerance, Goodbye First Love and The Kid With A Bike.
