EXCLUSIVE: Carles Porta, already on board the film for four years as writer and producer, will take on directorial duties in place of Bigas Luna
Antartida Productions, the Spanish production company run by producer Oscar Rodriguez has announced that production will continue on the late Bigas Luna film Second Origin.
“We’re all so sorry for the loss of such a big creative genius and exceptional person. Shooting was due to commence in the summer in Catalonia and we have now to fulfil Bigas’ express wish: he wanted the film to carry on and be dedicated to his recently born grandson.” said producer Oscar Rodriguez
Carles Porta, already on board the film for four years as writer and producer, will take on directorial duties in place of Bigas Luna.
“I’ve worked with Bigas from the very beginning of the inception of this film, for over 3 years now,” added Porta. “I know the special moments he planned and his vision for the film. We have concept designs, a shooting script and a full storyboard and I believe that it will be a great posthumous film that we will complete in his honour.”
The story is set in Catalonia and is a 3D post-apocalyptic love story based on a best selling Spanish novel, Mecanoscrit del Segon Origen by Manuel de Pedrolo. Starring Rachel Hurd-Wood, it is billed as a science-fiction movie about love and adventure.
Second Origin is a co-production between Antartida Producciones (Spain), Christine Alderson’s Ipso Facto Productions (UK) and Jean Luc Van Damme’s Banana Films (Belgium). Co-producers Christine and Jean Luc said: “Everyone is very sad and Bigas is a big loss but we are committed to support Carles and Oscar to deliver the film.”
Intandem Films are International sales agents and the film is financed by ICEC, ICAA, Televisio de Catalunya, Television Espanola, Diputacio de Lleida, Ajuntament de Lleida, Lip Sync, Premiere and UMedia, among others.
