Top brass at the 29th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival unveiled its winners on Sunday (9)
The Panavision Spirit Award for Independent Cinema went to the Christina Noble biopic Noble directed by Stephen Bradley and starring Dierdre O’Kane. As reported exclusively on Screendaily, Continental Media acquired world sales rights and has been talking up at the EFM in Berlin.
The Best International Film Award went to Robin Campillo Eastern Boys from France. Best Documentary Film Award went to Matt Livadary’s Queens And Cowboys: A Straight Year On The Gay Rodeo. The film also won the Audience Choice Award.
The Nueva Vision Award for the best Spanish/Latin American film was awarded to Joel Novoa’s God’s Slave (Esclavo De Dios).
The Best Eastern European Film Award for best Eastern Bloc feature went to Serik Aprymov’s Bauyr (Little Brother) from Kazakhstan.
The Bruce Corwin Award for Best Live Action Short Film Under 30 Minutes went to Satellite Beach directed by Luke and Andrew Wilson. The Bruce Corwin Award for Best Animation Short Film went to Patrick McHale’s Tome Of The Unknown.
The Fund for Santa Barbara Social Justice Award Sponsored by The Fund for Santa Barbara for a documentary film that addresses social justice issues went to Through A Lens Darkly: Black Photographers And The Emergence Of A People by Thomas Allen Harris.
“The calibre of films that we welcomed to our community was exceptional and opened our eyes to all corners of the world,” said executive director Roger Durling. “We are proud to have shown these films and have them be a part of the 2014 Santa Barbara International Film Festival.”
The festival ran from January 30-February 9.
