Marek Najbrt’s Protektor (still pictured) won the Starz Denver Film Festival’s (SDFF) Krzysztof Kieslowski Award for best feature film as the event came to a close on November 22.

The Maysles Brothers Award for best documentary went to Lexy Lovell and Michael Uys’ The Good Soldier.

Bob Byington’s Harmony And Me won the Starz People’s Choice Award for best feature and Damani Baker and Alex Vlack’s Still Bill took the corresponding documentary award.

The jury for the Krzysztof Kieslowski Award comprised Screen International editor Mike Goodridge, Sundance documentary programming associate Basil Tsiokos and Filmmaker Magazine writer Howard Feinstein.

Maysles Brothers Award jurors were film-maker Daniel Junge, AFI DALLAS International Film Festival senior programmer James Faust and San Francisco Film Society and San Francisco International Film Festival programme director Laura Thielen.

The 11-day festival screened 210 films from 37 countries, comprising 56 documentaries, 124 features and 86 shorts.  Festival top brass said attendance exceeded the previous record of 45,000 and ticket revenues were up 24% from last year.

“With record-breaking opening night and overall ticket sales in festival history, our 32nd year of the Starz Denver Film Festival has been the most talked about yet,” SDFF director Britta Erickson said.
