Louis Bélanger’s film will also feature in the festival’s world competition section.
Louis Bélanger’s Route 132 will open the 34th Montreal World Film Festival, which runs from August 26 – September 6th.
The film, which will also feature in the festival’s world competition section, is the third feature by the Montreal film-maker to screen at the festival, following Post Mortem in 1999 for which he won the best director award, and Gaz Bar Blues in 2003.
Co-written by Belanger and Alexis Martin, and starring François Papineau and Alexis Martin, the film centres around two small-time crooks who decide to hit the road for a little crime spree.
“We are very happy to have Louis Bélanger’s new film to open our Festival. Gaz Bar Blues opened the 27th MWFF in 2003 and Bélanger’s first film, Post Mortem, was selected for the Official Competition in 1999. We are very proud that once again a film by Louis Bélanger will have its world premiere at the Festival,” said MWFF president, Serge Losique and general director Danièle Cauchard.
