Shame, Coriolanus to screen at Wales' Soundtrack Festival

The Soundtrack International Film and Music Festival, which celebrates the relationship between film and music, will open with Steve McQueen’s Shame on November 16. The film features an NYC soundtrack which includes tracks from Chic, Blondie and John Coltrane.

Closing the festival will be Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut Coriolanus which features a dramatic score BAFTA nominated composer Ilan Eshkeri.

Other highlights will include Grammy award winning filmmaker and musician Don Letts presenting his 2005 film Punk Attitude, and talk about his career as a director of works including 2003 Clash documentary Westway To The World.

Comedian Adam Buxton, whose comedy partner Joe Cornish made his directorial debut this year with Attack The Block, will be curating Bug: The Evolution of Music Video, a strand of music videos mixed with comedy that also played at this summer’s Edinburgh Festival.

There will be a preview screening of Paul Kelly’s Lawrence Of Belgravia as well as a 40^th anniversary celebration of A Clockwork Orange, featuring a pre-screening exhibition of items from the Stanley Kubrick Archive and a post screening panel discussion with guests from The Stanley Kubrick Archive and The British Board of Film Censors.

For the first time this year the Cardiff based festival will have an offshoot in Newport, as a result of backing from Newport City Council, Capital Region Tourism and the Newport Film School.

Suzanne Alizart, interim chief executive at festival funder Film Agency for Wales described Soundtrack as a “flagship event for the Film Agency, which has demonstrated from its first outing its commitment to internationally renowned film and music talent, spotlighting Wales to the world. This year’s programme once again reflects our ability to attract major names in the film and music world, with more film previews than ever before and an expansion into Newport for the first time.”
