Dame Vivienne Westwood officially opened London’s new Barbican Cinemas 2&3 - the first addition to the venue since the Barbican opened in 1982.

Funded by the City of London Corporation, the two screens seat 156 each and also features the Camera Café & Bar.

The interiors are furnished with Tom Dixon pieces and features an interactive montage wall in the lobby area with hundreds of photographs of film stars, interspersed with QR codes, leading to original screenplays.

The sceens join the newly refurbished Cinema 1 (seating 288) and will feature new releases, festivals, seasons, special events and cross-arts programming.

In the new cinemas, a monthly Saturday afternoon cinema club for teenagers, Framed Focus, will start in February, giving young people the chance to become involved in the programming of their own club.

All three screens are equipped with digital projection, plus 35mm and 16mm reflecting the Barbican’s commitment to presenting archive and world cinema.Cinemas 1 and 2 are also equipped with 3D projection.
