Kinowelt USA has acquired the rights to Cap'n Ricky, a new screenplay by hot comedy writer Mark Perez whose credits include The Country Bears which is in pre-production at Disney, The Party Professional which was bought by Universal for Casey Silver's Gone Fishin Productions and Untitled Dave Sheridan Project which was bought by Disney for Robert Simonds to produce.
The story follows the zany adventures of Ricardo Brubaker aka Cap'n Ricky, who pilots the jungle boat ride at a run-down Florida amusement park. Sid Ganis' Out Of The Blue Entertainment and Matt Rhodes and Dan Stone's Persistent Pictures will produce the film for Kinowelt.
The project was brought into Kinowelt USA by the company's director of development Matt Milich after Matt Rhodes bought it to his attention. Kinowelt USA co-chairs Chris Sievernich and Rainer Koelmel and Todd Lieberman will executive produce, with Ganis, Rhodes and Stone producing.
Out Of The Blue has produced films including Big Daddy and Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo, while Persistent has credits including Auggie Rose, The Amati Girls and Silver Man.
The deal was brokered on Perez's behalf by manager Brian Lutz and CAA's Craig Gehring and by Matt Milich on behalf of Kinowelt USA.
