Klaus Haro's Finnishforeign language Oscar submission Mother Of Mine boosted its impressive awards pedigree at theweekend by winning the International Press Academy's (IPA) Golden SatelliteAward.
The picture chronicles a youngster's journey to Sweden to meet his new motherand stars Topi Majaniemi, Marjaana Maijala, Maria Lundqvist and MichaelNyqvist.
Last week Mother Of Minevirtually swept the boards at the Cairo International Film Festival, winningbest film, best director and best actress for Lundqvist.
Other wins include the Audience and Baltic Critics Award at the Nordic FilmFestival, Lubeck.
Mother Of Mine will receive itsUS premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and will open theScandinavian Film Festival in January in Los Angeles. Columbia TriStar andNordisk Films are handling the picture in Scandinavia.
Gena Rowlands received the IPA's Mary Pickford Award for OutstandingContribution to the Entertainment Industry, while Stan Winston collected theNikola Tesla Award for his special effects work on such hits as JurassicPark, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Aliens.
George Clooney received the Special Achievement (Auteur) Award for GoodNight, and Good Luck.
