Kornel Mundruczo's highly anticipated new film, Delta, received top honours at the 39th Hungarian Film Week. The powerful story of a young man's fateful attempt to return to his home and family received the Golden Reel for best picture as well as the Gene Moskowitz prize, awarded by foreign film critics attending the festival.

'This film is about survival,' Mundruczo told the audience of the awards ceremony yesterday, alluding to his five-year journey in making the film. The project was set back when lead actor Lajos Bertok died in the midst of filming and the director was forced to recast, placing Felix Lajko in the role. Lajko also received an award for best original music for his work on the Delta soundtrack.

The other big winner of the festival was The Investigator, which earned Zsolt Anger the award for Best Actor, Zoltan Kovacs the award for Best Editing, and Best Screenplay.

The international jury also award a special prize for Milky Way. Benedek Fliegauf's experimental film received a Golden Leopard at Locarno last year and also picked up a Film Week award for Best Sound.

The Best Director award went to Elemer Ragalyi for his work on Without Mercy. Best Cinematography went to Gergely Poharnok for his work on Milky Way and on Hourglass.
