Jackie Chan’s Jackie & JJ Productions has sold historical epic 1911 to Well Go USA for North America and Showbox for the UK.
The $30m epic, produced by Jackie & JJ Productions and Shanghai Film Group, has also gone to China Lion for Australia & New Zealand, Sahamongkolfilm for Thailand, PT Teguh Bakti Mandri for Indonesia, Gulf Film for the Middle East and Hollywood Entertainment for Greece and Cyprus.
Starring Chan and co-directed by the star and Zhang Li, 1911 tells the story of the founding of the Republic of China when Sun Yat-sen’s forces overthrew the Qing Dynasty. Sun is played by look-alike Chinese actor Zhao Wen Xuan. Li Bingbing and Joan Chen also star. The film started shooting in September and will be released in October 2011.
Well Go and Showbox also acquired Chan’s last Chinese film, Little Big Soldier, directed by Sheng Ding and starring Chan and Wang Lee-hom.
Meanwhile, romantic comedy The Break-Up Artist, executive produced by Chan and directed by Steve Woo, has sold to the UK (Showbox), Middle East (Gulf Film), Thailand (Sahamongkolfilm), Turkey (Metis Medya Produksiyon Tic), Italy (One Movie) and Australia & New Zealand (China Lion). The film stars Chinese actress Lin Peng who also starred in Little Big Soldier.
