Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai has been selected as the IIFA World Premiere at this year’s Videocon IIFA Weekend, which is taking place in Singapore (June 7-9).
The film will screen on June 7, the day before its worldwide release, at Shaw Theatres’ Lido Cinemas with Banerjee and the film’s cast in attendance.
Produced by India’s PVR Pictures, Shanghai is a political thriller that follows three characters from different backgrounds who become embroiled in the messy politics of a small Indian town. The cast includes Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin and Prosenjit Chattejee.
In addition, the organisers of the IIFA Weekend unveiled the nominations for this year’s IIFA Awards. Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara leads the race with 14 nominations, closely followed by Milan Luthria’s The Dirty Picture with 13 nods.
Rockstar, directed by Imtiaz Ali, scooped nine nominations, while blockbuster Bodyguard, starring Salman Khan, received seven nods. Other films to receive multiple nominations include Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster, Stanley Ka Dabba and Pyaar Ka Punchnama.
The five films vying for best picture are Bodyguard, No One Killed Jessica, Rockstar, The Dirty Picture and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
