Leonardo DiCaprio’s best actor victory could not prevent the Baftas from slipping to a five-year low.
The two-hour ceremony, held at London’s Royal Opera House, featured five gongs for The Revenant and a lifetime achievement award for Sidney Poitier.
It was the event’s lowest performance since 2010 when it entertained a crowd of 3.6m (15.2%).
The show peaked with 5.1m (24.3%) in the five minutes from 9.55pm and beat the channel’s 4m (20.8%) slot average for the last 12 months.
