Bankside Films has come on to handle international sales in Berlin on fantasy thriller The Philosophers starring James D’Arcy. Paradigm represents North American rights.
The project marks the third feature from writer-director John Huddles and shot entirely on location in Indonesia.
The Philosophers takes place at an international school in Jakarta where a mysterious teacher challenges 20 senior students to an extreme survival test involving limited spaces in a nuclear bunker.
George Zakk and Cybill Lui of Los Angeles-based An Olive Branch are producing with Huddles and Eddy Sariaatmadja of Indonesia’s PT Surya Citra Televisi. Balaji Rao serves as executive producer.
The cast includes Sophie Lowe, Daryl Sabara, Freddie Stroma, Rhys Wakefield and Bonnie Wright. Jacob Artist, George Blagden, Katie Findlay, Maia Mitchell and Erin Moriarty are also on board.
“Bankside Films is delighted to be bringing The Philosophers to the international marketplace,” said head of sales and marketing Stephen Kelliher.
“The film delivers a high-concept theatrical experience worthy of any studio film, something which is rarely seen in the independent sector.”
“We are thrilled to be working with Bankside and Paradigm on this unique and original film,” said Lui and Zakk.
“Bankside’s impeccable reputation for selling quality, commercial films combined with their level of excitement for our movie is exactly the kind of partner we’ve been looking for. We couldn’t be happier.”
