Warner Bros’ behemoth could have another big weekend in it but faces a strong challenge from Sony’s The Smurfs and Fox’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes.

The Harry Potter finale has amassed $822m to date and while there are no further launches, observers expect solid holdover business for what has become the third biggest film in history and the biggest release of the year at the North American, international and global box office.

Meanwhile Horrible Bosses stands at $29m and Green Lantern has reached $48m and opens this weekend in Australia, Mexico and France.

Fox International’s Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is one of the best-reviewed films of the summer and top brass will hope to translate critical acclaim plus buzz from last weekend’s number one launch in North America into solid international results.

The action drama has grossed $30.8m and should enjoy a strong second weekend with debuts set for 17 territories including the UK, Germany and France.

Glee The 3D Concert opensin Australia and New Zealand. Mr Popper’s Penguins opens in Italy and Holland and stands at $83m, while Monte Carlo is at $6.5m and X-Men: First Class has grossed $206.2m.

The Smurfs has already taken more than $56.3m through Sony Pictures Releasing International and opens this weekend in the UK, China, Russia and South Korea as well as a further eight territories.

Zookeeperon more than $50.2m opens in Spain, Singapore, South Africa and Malaysia. Hanna stands at more than $22.4m and opens in Italy while local-language title Resturlaub debuts in Germany, German-speaking Switzerland and Austria. Bad Teacher has grossed more than $89.2m.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures International’s Cars 2 stands at $273.7m and pulls into Hong Kong, Taiwan and Finland this weekend.

The distributor will open Cannes Palme d’Or winner The Tree Of Life in Japan and reported that Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has amassed $798.7m.

Marvel Studios’ Captain America stands at $113.7m through PPI, while Transformers: Dark Of The Moon has amassed $707.9m and Kung Fu Panda 2 is on $452m.

Cowboys & Aliensgets its first international push through PPI in 15 territories including South Korea, Russia and Singapore. Super 8 opens in Brazil and stands at $83.9m.

Universal’s Bridesmaids has taken $92.4m through UPI and opens in France, Spain and French-speaking Switzerland. Beastly arrives in Russia.
