Festival honours E.L. Katz’s genre thriller.
The Fantasia International Film Festival has given the New Flesh Award for Best First Feature to Cheap Thrills.
The festival hosted the Canadian premiere of E.L. Katz’s genre thriller yesterday [Aug 4].
Winner of SXSW’s Audience Award, the Fantasia jury described the film as “darkly humorous, smart and bloody in ways that will make many viewers squirm with glee.
“This abundantly confident first feature provides a thoroughly entertaining snapshot of modern blue collar desperation in a world addicted to easy money and childish amusement.”
A special mention went to Halley, by Sebastian Hofmann.
A quiet and austere immersion into the deterioration of one man’s life, the jury branded it “a mesmerising experience that will likely challenge most viewers, it’s a haunting journey worth taking.”
