Leipzig-based world sales outfit Aktis Film International will be presenting its latest acquisition, Uta Arning’s Snowchild, as a market premiere at Cannes’ Marché du Film.
Speaking about Arning’s low-budget feature which was largely shot in Asia with a German-Japanese cast, Aktis Film’s managing director Stelios Ziannis described Snowchild as “an extraordinary debut, a genre film with international potential.”
The production had its world premiere in the Perspectives sidebar of last year’s Moscow International Film Festival where it won the Special Diploma of Cinema Clubs “for its organic combination of comic and serious” and “non-trivial search for means of expression”. The coming of age modern fairytale had its German premiere in the competition of the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival in Saarbrücken in January.
Aktis Film’s current sales slate also includes Achim Michael Hasenberg’s documentary I Want To Run about the longest endurance run – 4,500 kilometres – from Bari in Southern Italy to the North Cape, and Josh Aronson’s Orchestra Of Exiles about Bronislaw Huberman’s creation of a top-notch symphony orchestra in the desert outback of Palestine in 1936 with such luminaries as Arturo Toscanini, Pinchas Zukerman and Itzhak Perlman.
The US-Israeli co-production is scheduled to be completed during this month.
