The feature doc is in the World Cinema Documentary competition at next week’s Sundance Film Festival.
Icon Entertainment International is to handle international sales on James Marsh’s latest feature documentary Project Nim, which will have its world premiere at Sundance on Jan 20.
Icon will also release the film in the UK and Australia in late 2011, as well as co-repping the film for North America alongside Josh Braun from Submarine Entertainment.
Project Nim follows the story of a chimpanzee who became the focus of a landmark experiment in the 1970s, which aimed to show that an ape could communicate with language if raised and nurtured as a human child.
It is James Marsh’s first feature documentary following Man On Wire, which won the best documentary Oscar in 2009.
Simon Chinn of Red Box Films produced the feature doc, which has been funded by the UKFC and BBC Films.
Hugo Grumbar, managing director of the Icon UK Group said of the acquisition: “Following the worldwide success of Man on Wire, Icon are proud to be working again with such accomplished filmmakers on this remarkable new film.”
“James Marsh and I are thrilled to be working on our new film with Hugo and his team at Icon after their impressive UK release of Man on Wire,” added Chinn, who also produced Man On Wire.
