US Hansel and Gretel update stars Lara Flynn Boyle, Michael Welch and Molly C. Quinn
Jinga Films has taken on foreign rights to teen comedy-horror Black Forest: Hansel and Gretel & The 420 Witch, starring Lara Flynn Boyle, Michael Welch, Molly C. Quinn, Cary Elwes and produced by Twilight producer Mark Morgan.
Director Duane Journey’s feature debut, an update of the classic German fairy tale, follows a brother and sister who battle a witch who uses a special drug to lure teenagers into her suburban home where she devours them to maintain her youth and beauty.
Morgan produces alongside James Cotten and Brett Hudson. The film is currently shooting in Los Angeles.
Jinga’s Julian Richards, who negotiated the deal with Mark Morgan, said: “Black Forest is a contemporary urban twist on a gothic fairytale with its use of drugs in place of candy. It’s an edgy theme with a darkly comic tone which I am sure will appeal to the same audience as Twilight”.
Jinga will be screening footage at the EFM.
