Deal done for France, Germany and Benelux.

Pretty Pictures has acquired Thai feature I Carried You Home for France, Germany and Benelux.

Tongpong Chantarangkul’s debut feature premiered in Busan’s New Currents programme. The story is about two estranged sisters who have to drive their dead mother’s body back to a small village in rural Thailand.

Head of Acquisitions Aranka Matits, who brought in the film, said: “When we saw I Carried You Home we instantly fell in love with this equally light-hearted and pensive film. It takes audiences on a deeply emotional journey, taking up the universal themes of homecoming, loss and gain. The film’s elegance and precision in both story-telling and style are remarkable; they establish Chantarangkul as a strong new voice.”

James Velaise and Aranka Matits of Pretty Pictures negotiated the deal with Triton Film’s Thacksakorn Pradubpongsa.

“We are thrilled I Carried You Home will be released by Pretty Pictures. The film couldn’t be in better hands. We are very happy we will be able to share the message in our hearts with audiences in Europe,” added Bangkogk-based Chantarangkul.

Pretty Pictures’ other forthcoming releases in France include Tony Kaye’s Detachment and Madonna’s W.E.

Pretty Pictures will release I CARRIED YOU HOME in France in the second half of 2012 and will present the film to distributors in Germany and Benelux in the weeks to come.
