The deals continued to roll in on Saturday (28) as Magnolia acquired Craig Zobel’s thriller following their previous collaboration on Great Wall Of Sound.
Sophia Lin, Lisa Muskat, Tyler Davidson, Theo Sena and Zobel produced the provocative film about the limits of authority. Ann Dowd and Dreama Walker star.
Magnolia svp of acquisitions Dori Begley negotiated the deal with John Sloss and Dana O’Keefe of Cinetic Media. Magnolia said it planned a theatrical release later this year.
The distributor also acquired North American rights to 2 Days In New York, Julie Delpy’s follow-up to 2 Days In Paris. Delpy stars with Chris Rock and Christophe Mazodier produced. Begley negotiated the deal with CAA on behalf of the producer and international rights holder Rezo. Magnolia will release later this year through its Ultra VoD programme and there will be a “robust” theatrical component.
Earlier in the day Magnolia acquired Nobody Walks starring Olivia Thirlby in the tale of a visiting artist who blows like a thunderstorm through the Los Angeles home of her Silverlake hosts. Red-hot Submarine, enjoying its best ever festival, represented North American sales and negotiated the deal with Magnolia.
Two further deals emerged at the weekend as ATO Pictures announced on Friday it had acquired all North American rights to James Marsh’s Shadow Dancer.
Andrea Riseborough stars as a woman caught up in the IRA struggle against British authorities. Clive Own, Gillian Anderson, Aidan Gillen and Domhnall Gleeson also star.
Chris Coen of Unanimous Entertainment produced and Joe Oppenheimer, Brahim Chioua, Norman Merry, Vincent Maraval, screenwriter Tom Bradby and Rita Dagher served as executive producers. ATO head of acquisitions Sarah Lash negotiated the deal with CAA on behalf of the producers.
Madman has acquired Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to Matthew Aker’s artist profile Marina Abramovic The Artist Is Present. Submarine’s David Koh, Josh Braun and Dan Braun negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers with Madman MD Paul Wiegard.
The film is a Show of Force Production in association with HBO Documentary Films and was produced by Jeff Dupre and Maro Chermayeff.
