Joint venture will be based in Copenhagen.

Danish producer Thomas Gammeltoft [pictured], of Fine & Mellow, has joined forces with international producer-distributor Eyeworks to set up Eyeworks Fine & Mellow, a joint venture with Eyeworks, one of the world’s top five independent production-distribution companies operating in 17 countries.

”The new framework will give us the clout to aim not only at the local, but the Nordic and international markets. My ambition is, with Eyeworks Sweden and Norway, ro become one of the largest producers of Scandinavian drama,” Gammeltoft explained. ”At the same time we will work with cross-over contents between reality-documentary, which is Eyeworks’ trade mark, and fiction, which has been Fine & Mellow’s focus.”

Based at Eyeworks’ headquarters in central Copenhagen, with Eyeworks Denmark ceo Esben Halding as managing director, Eyeworks Fine & Mellow will produce a feature annually, and be in development-production with a television series for the Danish market. On a Nordic basis the yearly outlet will be two-four features and three television series.

While in development with both features and TV drama, Gammeltoft’s most recent production is Danish director Henrik Ruben Genz’s Excuse Me (Undskyld, jeg forstyrrer), which will be domestically released on Jan 5 and internationally at the European Film Market in Berlin; their Terribly Happy (Frygtelig lykkelig/2008) won the Danish Robert award for Best Film.

He will shortly announce his partners for a US remake of Terribly Happy, and for Genz’s next project he has optioned Henrik Strube’s novel, The Violin Maker (Violinbyggeren). He will also co-produce Monica Z (Monica Zetterlund - A Lingonberry in a Cocktail), Danish director Per Fly’s biopic of the Swedish singer-actress staged by Sweden’s StellaNova Film.

Originally founded in the Netherlands 2001, Eyeworks has firm links to more than 100 broadcasters all over the world, and its formats have been sold to 50+ territories. Eyeworks Scandinavia in Stockholm coordinates its Swedish, Danish and Norwegian companies. – Gammeltoft instigated his first Fine & Mellow in 2002, then with Nordisk Film as a minority partner.
