Lee Tamahori will direct action epic Emperor for Corsan.
He reunites with Corsan after working together on The Devil’s Double. Tamahori’s credits also include Die Another Day and XXX State of the Union.
Paul Breuls, CEO of Corsan, will produce. Corsan will finance the film and sales will be done by Corsan World Sales, headed by Pascal Borno.
Tamahori added: “I loved working in Europe with Corsan on Devil’s Double. We have a fine opportunity to reunite with the old gang and take on yet another challenge. History is as it is told, and I cherish the idea to give my look on this story.”
Emperor is about a young woman seeking revenge for the execution of her father by Emperor Charles V.
Breuls said: “This is an film that will reinvent the 16th century, an action adventure story that defies and transcends our imagination that will be stunningly told using live action and innovative CGI technology.”
Jan Blokker wrote the original screenplay with Michael Thomas (Devil’s Double) also contributing to the script.
The shoot is set to start in autumn 2012 in Spain, Belgium and Germany. Casting will start immediately.
The deal was closed by attorney Harris Tulchin on behalf of Corsan and Robert Newman of WME on behalf of Lee Tamahori.
