The Halcyon Company has named Flow My Tears,The Policeman Said as the first Philip K Dick adaptation to go under its exclusive deal with the writer’s estate.
The story was first published in 1974 and takes place in a futuristic dystopia where the United States has become a police state in the wake of a second civil war.
Halcyon co-founders and co-CEOs Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson will develop and produce the project alongside Isa Dick Hackett and Laura Leslie, co-founders of Electric Shepherd Productions, the production arm of Dick’s estate, and Dale Rosenbloom and John Alan Simon.
Christopher Tricarico brokered the deal on behalf of the Estate of Philip K Dick and Electric Shepherd.
Kubicek and Anderson secured first-look rights to Dick’s entire estate in 2007. The late sci-fi writer’s works have spawned such acclaimed adaptations as Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report and A Scanner Darkly.
Kubicek and Anderson said Dick’s collection stories was “truly unique and in a league of its own.” Hackett added that Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said “has always been a fan favourite, one which lends itself perfectly to film adaptation.”
“We know that in Halcyon and Electric Shepherd we have found the right partners for this journey,” Rosenbloom and Simon said. “We all share the same commitment to preserve the author’s unique and complex vision of the future and the nature of reality itself.”
