HBO is to co-produce the miniseries adaptation of JK Rowling’s bestseller The Casual Vacancy with the BBC.
Production on the trio of one-hour episodes is scheduled to kick off this summer in Southwest England.
The Casual Vacancy takes place in Pagford, a seemingly placid idyll that hides a series of running battles between its inhabitants.
BAFTA winner Jonny Campbell will direct from a screenplay by Sarah Phelps, whose roster of credits include soap EastEnders, the BBC’s Great Expectations and The Crimson Field.
Rowling and Neil Blair’s Bronte Film and Television is producing the miniseries. Blair serves as executive producer with Paul Trijbits and Rick Senat. Ruth Kenley-Letts produces.
Rowlings book has sold more than 6 million copies worldwide since it was published in 2012.
HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo made the announcement.
