The Match Factory has acquired international rights of Hany Abu-Assad’s Omar.
Abu-Assad’s latest feature tells the tragic story of three childhood friends and a young woman who are torn apart in their fatal fight for freedom, and stars Waleed Zuaiter, Adam Bakri, Samer Bisharat, Eyad Hourani and Leem Lubany.
“We are thrilled to work with this exceptional director and producers David Gerson and Waleed Zuaiter, who are in our eyes an ideal combination of passion and ambition to make an outstanding film of international relevance,” commented Michael Weber of The Match Factory.
Abu-Assad, who won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film for Paradise Now and was nominated for an Academy Award, added: “I am overwhelmed to be making the first fully financed film by the emerging Palestinian film community.
“I wrote this ‘amour-fou’ for audiences in every corner of the world, and I am humbled by ZBros’ tireless commitment to support filmmakers in this region.”
Omar, which is in post-production, was produced by ZBros LLC, a newly formed Palestinian-American production company, and was shot in the West Bank and Nazareth. It is the first feature film financed entirely by Palestinian investors with the support of the Enjaaz Film Initiative.
