Inaugural edition of the new co-production market will run June 12-13.

Pia Marais, Andrea Segre and Brillante Mendoza [pictured] are among the directors who will be presenting their new projects at the inaugural Paris Coproduction Village in June.

Organised by the same team that runs Les Arcs European Film Festival, in association with the Champs-Elysees Film Festival, the event will take place off Paris’ most famous boulevard on June 12 and 13.

The event was launched in March to replace the respected Paris Project co-production market, which folded after losing its city hall funding. 

“We pulled together the line-up in an incredibly short space of time,” said Vanja Kaludjercic, who spearheads the new event alongside Les Arcs CEO Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin.

“We were very proactive in terms of chasing projects we knew were coming together. Everyone did their bit and got on the phone. We’re pretty pleased with the resulting selection.”

Fleurantin said: “It’s a mixture of established directors like Pia, Andrea and Karim Ainouz, who’ve recently had films in a top festival such as Berlin or Venice, and new talents such as Suba Sivakumaran, who had a short film in Berlin, and Israeli Asaf Saban.”

Other key members of the Co-production Village team are Les Arcs manager Guillaume Calop and consultant and co-founder Jeremy Zelnik.

Les Arcs

Les Arcs European Film Festival, which runs in December in the French Alps, has built a solid industry programme since its launch in 2009 including the Arc 1950 Coproduction Village, which is also overseen by Vanja Kaludjercic. 

In a sign of the co-production village’s success, two Cannes titles – Alice Rohrwacher’s Palme d’Or contender The Wonders and Ruben Ostlund’s Un Certain Regard title Force Majeure – were presented at past editions.

Overall, there are four European projects, three Asian films, two projects from the Middle East and one project each from the US and Latin America. Their budgets range from €500,000 to €10m ($685,000 to $13.7m).

Cinéfondation

In addition, the six current residents of the Cannes Film Festival Cinéfondation will present their projects.

They comprise:

  • Against the Day Katarina Stankovic (Serbia)
  • Hearstone Gudmundur Arnar Gudmundsson (Iceland)
  • The Hereisses Marcelo Martinessi (Paraguay)
  • Last Autumn Sam Holst (Australia)
  • Small Talk Marcela Said (Chile)

All the projects will benefit from one-to-one pre-scheduled meetings with producers, sales agents, distributors, from networking events, as well as seminars taught by leading film industry professionals.

The new platform complements the third edition of the Champs-Elysees Film Festival’s US-In-Progress programme aimed at finding distributors and sales agents for independent US productions. This year’s titles comprise:
