EXCLUSIVE: Set to go into pre-production later this year, the film is based on Daniel Mason’s acclaimed historical novel.
Peter Webber has signed on to direct The Piano Tuner.
Based on Daniel Mason’s acclaimed historical novel, the film will be produced by Mulberry Films partners Gopi Sait, Sunaman Sood and Rashaana Shah with Latitude Media’s Daria Jovicic.
Set in 1886, it follows a piano tuner who receives a strange request by the British War Office to deliver a rare grand piano to a legendary British Officer in the remot jungles of northeast Burma.
Webber commented: “Daria and I previously worked together on Girl with a Pearl Earring, and as a fan of Daniel Mason’s novel The Piano Tuner, I was delighted when she approached me and asked if I would direct a movie based on his book.
“The story has a distinct contemporary relevance as an early example of the globalising world we still live in. It’s an exciting and adventurous story set in the epic landscapes of Burma at the height of the British Empire.”
“When I first read The Piano Tuner, Peter was the obvious choice to direct this incredible film. We are excited to work with him and to bring this riveting and adventurous story to life,” added Jovicic.
