The veteran actor is the latest high-profile name to join the project, which Barry Levinson is set to direct in late autumn for a late 2012 release.
Levinson is rewriting the true story about the relationship between the notorious late kingpin John Gotti aka ‘The Dapper Don’ and his son John Gotti Jr, the heir apparent to the Gambino crime family who chose to turn his back on a life of crime. Levinson’s Bugsy screenwriter James Toback is helping on the script.
Pacino will portray Gambino family underboss and Gotti associate Neil Dellacroce. John Travolta, Kelly Preston, Joe Pesci and Lindsay Lohan are among the previously announced cast. ICM represents worldwide sales.
“Al Pacino is one of the finest actors of all time, and will bring an unsurpassed level of reality and excitement to the film,” Marc Fiore, Fiore Films CEO and executive producer on the project, said. “We are very pleased to have Al join the extraordinary team that we are assembling to make this movie.”
Fiore Films acquired life rights from John Gotti Jr, marking the first time a member of the Gotti family has entered into an agreement to tell their story for a major feature.
LA and New Jersey-based Fiore Films is also in development on Mob Street.
