Americine’s CEO Javier Krause confirmed during Ventana Sur that the company has two new films in development.

Buenos Aires-based Americine has optioned Road To New Orleans (Camino a New Orleans) by Fabian Iriarte, a project that will shoot in Argentina. The story follows a debt collector living in a small town near Buenos Aires.

The film could be one of the projects to benefit from a $40m-$50m production fund that Americine’s parent D Street Media Group has set up.

Also, the company is preparing Air by Maria Laura Gargarella, who previously did Reasons For Not Falling In Love (Motivos para no enamorarse), to shoot in the US, potentially Atlanta. That film is about an African-American girl who loses her white mother as she comes of age.

“We want to build a slate of really strong movies,” Krause told Screen.

Its new parent company D Street Media Group, based in the US and Germany, has other films set to shoot in 2011, including John G Young’s Keith Haring/New York art world story Paradise, and Somewhere Slow, about a woman whose life changes after she is mixed up in a robbery.

Americine is also involved in sales, and screened here in Ventana Sur two titles — Jorge Colon’s Without Her (Sin Ella) and Gaspar Gomez’s Road July. Krause said the company expected to take on a number of new titles from Ventana Sur in coming weeks.

The Americine sales slate also includes Circus (Circo), The Exhibition (La Muestra), and Who Would You Call? (A Quien Llamarias?).
