Los Angeles-based Just Cause Productions, the 3D company set up by Avatar stuntman Rueben Langdon (pictured), is set to expand its business in Greater China. The first projects it has boarded are Yuen Tak’s action drama Mr And Mrs China and an action film produced by action star Sammo Hung.
Mr And Mrs China will be produced by Beijing-based Qilin Pictures and Hong Kong’s Taklung Film, and will be shot entirely in 3D. Just Cause will be providing 3D stereoscopic pre-visualization, motion capture and virtual camera services for the project. Yuen Tak, who directed Sniper (2008) with Edison Chen, The Myth (2005) with Jackie Chan and The Legend (1993) with Jet Li, makes his directing debut on the film.
The is set in 1920s China and follows a Chinese man trying to win over his Japanese wife through a series of fight contests. Yuen says the film will be full of action and requires a large amount of motion capture technique in the pre-shooting stage in order to more precisely present the action when shot in 3D cameras.
Qilin is in talks with Taiwan-based post-production outfit Leader Asia Pacific Center to work on 3D photography and equipment as well as post-production services. The film has now received a shooting permit by the Chinese authorities and is scheduled to start shooting in Oct.
For Sammo Hung’s untitled action project, Just Cause will be providing only 3D Stereoscopic photography services.
Rueben Langdon worked on Avatar as the stuntman for motion capture, working on the majority of the action sequences in the film. Just Cause has previously provided motion capture service for video games Devil May Cry 3&4 and Resident Evil 5 and motion capture and action design for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles online game.
“We see the increasing demand for 3D works from Asia and we understand that in Asia, projects are relatively smaller and shot in shorter period of time. We plan to provide suitable 3D services catering to the needs of our clients in Greater China,” said Daniel Chen, producer at Just Cause Productions.
