LA and Paris-based Dynamic Television heads to MIPTV with a 10-part crime series to be directed by the Icelandic filmmaker.
Kormakur and RVK Studios will start production this autumn in Iceland. Kormakur will direct and produces with RVK’s Magnus Vidar Sigurdsson.
RVX, the effects arm of RVK studios, will design visual effects. Dynamic Television’s Daniel March and Klaus Zimmermann will serve as executive producers and oversee world distribution.
Trapped is based on an original idea by Kormakur written by Sigurjon Kjartansson and Clive Bradley about the investigation of an unidentified corpse found at the bottom of a fjord after an International ferry arrives in a small town. When a blizzard strikes, the only road in and out become impassable.
“I developed Trapped because I was fascinated with the idea of a terrible crime in a small town cut off from the rest of the world,” said Kormakur. “I am looking forward to putting a new spin on the Scandinavian crime genre for audiences around the world and I’m equally excited to be partnering with Dan and Klaus at Dynamic.”
“Our excitement about the originality and brilliance of the material is only surpassed by our thrill to work with Baltasar and a great team of talented creators,” said March. “We are going to be very proud to deliver this series to our clients around the world.”
“Trapped has all of the ingredients to be a very successful crime drama,” said Zimmermann. “The show will not only transport audiences to a stunning and exotic location, but will follow characters on an emotional journey filled with breathtaking tension.”
Kormakur is currently directing the adventure Everest for Universal Pictures, Cross Creek Pictures and Working Title Films. Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes and Jake Gyllenhaal star and the film is scheduled for release on September 18, 2015.
