EXCLUSIVE: Picture is Norwegian Oslo August 31st director Joachim Trier’s first English-language film.
Isabelle Huppert [pictured], Gabriel Byrne and Jesse Eisenberg have boarded Norwegian director Joachim Trier’s English-language debut Louder Than Bombs.
The family drama revolves around the character of a famous, late war photographer played by Huppert. On the eve of a retrospective of work, some three years after her untimely death, her husband and two sons discover an unsettling secret from her past.
Byrne will play the husband and Eisenberg one of the sons.
”Louder Than Bombs is a character-driven piece so I am obviously thrilled to have such incredible actors working with me on this,” Trier commented. “Isabelle, Jesse, and Gabriel are all actors I have wanted to work with for a long time, so having them play together as one family feels remarkable.”
Trier co-wrote the script with his long-time collaborator Eskil Vogt. The film will shoot in the US and Germany this autumn.
Louder Than Bombs is being produced by Sigve Endresen and co-produced by Hans Jørgen Osnes, both from Oslo-based Motlys, which produced Trier’s Oslo August 31st.
It is co-production between France, Norway, Denmark, Germany, and the US. Alexandre Mallet-Guy’s Memento Films Production will produce and distribute in France, partnering with Heino Deckert’s German Majade Films, and Bo Ehrhardt’s Danish Nimbus Film.
Bona Fide Productions’ Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa will produce from the United States.
The film is also backed by the Norwegian Film Institute, the Danish Film Institute, and the Nordic Film and TV fund. Norsk Fimsdistribusjon will distribute in Norway, with Nordisk taking Denmark and Triart handling Sweden.
Memento Films International will handle world sales, partnering with UTA on the North American sale. MFI’s Emilie Georges and Nicholas Shumaker executive produce, alongside Joshua Asterchan and Frederick W. Green of New York-based Animal Kingdom.
Bafta-winning Isabelle Huppert is represented by CAA and Voyez Mon Agent and managed by Principal Entertainment. The Social Network star Eisenberg is also with CAA and Bryne is handled by Paradigm and Dublin-based The Agency. Trier is represented by UTA and Casarotto Ramsay and Associates in London.
