John Erick Dowdle will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother Drew Dowdle. Sierra/Affinity handles international sales while CAA represents US rights.

Filming on The Coup is set to begin in Southeast Asia in October on the story of an American family that relocates to the region only to become embroiled in a violent uprising.

Crime Scene Pictures’ Adam Ripp and Rob Paris are financing and will produce with Steve Alexander and Drew Dowdle. Rizal Risjad and Philip Elway serve as executive producers. 

Crime Scene’s slate includes the Suspiria remake and the company is in pre-production on Kate Hudson action tale Everly, which Sierra/Affinity virtually sold out internationally at the EFM in February.
