Terence Davies’ long awaited adaptation of classic Scottish novel Sunset Song looks set to finally get off the ground, with shooting due to take place in Winter 2012 in Scotland and Sweden.
Hurricane Films and Swedish production company Götafilm have come onboard Terence Davies long awaited adaptation of Scots novel Sunset Song, with shooting due to begin in winter 2012.
Bob Last, who produced last year’s Oscar nominated animation The Illusionist, secured the deal with Hurricane, the production company behind Davies’ documentary Of Time And The City.
Based on Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s 1932 novel about a proud young woman and her bittersweet relationship with the oppressive landscapes and Highland crofting culture in which she was born, the film will be a Swedish co-production with Christer Nilson’s Götafilm, which recently produced the award winning Simon And The Oaks.
Hurricane’s Sol Papadopoulos and Roy Boulter will produce with Last as executive producer.
Davies and Last first conceived the idea after working on Davies’ 2000 film House Of Mirth together, but the project never quite got off the ground.
“When The Deep Blue Sea was released, Terence was very public in saying that if there was one story he still wanted to tell, it was this one,” said Last, who is now in the process of raising financing.
Shooting is set for Scotland and Pavelund, Sweden.
Casting is currently underway, with casting directors the Hubbards onboard.
