Ciaran Hinds, Toby Jones and Brazil’s Alicia Braga have joined New Line’s supernatural thriller The Rite that Mikael Hafstrom is directing.
Filming is set to get underway on May 17 in Budapest for ten weeks on the story, which stars previously announced Anthony Hopkins and Irish newcomer Colin O’Donoghue.
Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing the story about a skeptical young priest sent to the Vatican to be trained in exorcism by an unorthodox tutor following a decision by Pope Benedict XVI to train more exorcists.
Michael Petroni’s screenplay is based on Matt Baglio’s non fiction book The Rite: The Making Of A Modern Exorcist.
“It’s challenging because no matter what you believe, it’s a true story and the Devil is always going to be a provocative idea,” Flynn said from pre-production in Budapest.
Warner Bros holds worldwide rights.
