LD Entertainment will produce and finance the New Testament story Resurrection from producer Patrick Aiello with Kevin Reynolds set to direct.
The company has earmarked a March 2015 release in time for the Easter holiday on the project, which is styled as a mystery in the tonal vein of Gladiator.
Resurrection marks the second project between LD and Aiello following the recently announced family project Santa School and will centre on an agnostic Roman centurion at the time of the alleged resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The soldier is tasked by Pontius Pilot to subdue an uprising in Jerusalem and must investigate rumours of a risen Jewish Messiah and find the missing body of Jesus of Nazareth.
Aiello (pictured) will produce with Liddell. Patrick Raymond will serve as executive producer and oversee for LD Entertainment. Paul Aiello wrote the original screenplay and Karen Janszen and Reynolds contributed to the production script.
“As Resurrection is a high priority for us, we are very excited to be working with such a bold and talented director as Kevin,” said LD Entertainment CEO Mickey Liddell, adding later: “We are also grateful to be partnering with Patrick again and on such a wonderfully life-affirming film.”
“I believe Resurrection is for a wide audience as it’s a smart mystery told through the eyes of an everyman witnessing incredible events while doing his job,” said Aiello. “Kevin is a highly skilled nuanced filmmaker and a perfect match to fully realise this epic. I’m thankful Mickey and LD Entertainment embraced the project for their intelligent and diversified slate.”
