EXCLUSIVE: First film under the StudioCanal-Ombra Films banner gets under way; Oscar Faura to DoP; production to shoot in France, Barcelona and Canada.
Jorge Dorado’s debut feature Mindscape, about a man able to enter peoples’ memories, will star Mark Strong, Brian Cox and Taissa Farmiga.
StudioCanal is financing and is also handling international sales. Warner Brothers is distributing in Spain.
The thriller, as previously announced, is being produced by Unknown director Collet-Serra and partner Juan Solá under their Ombra Films banner, the production outfit formed by the duo and StudioCanal with the aim of generating English-language thrillers and horrors from Spanish talent.
Peter Safran (Buried) Antena 3 Films are also producing in association with Roxbury Pictures. Cnal + and Televisió de Catalunya.
Dorado received Goya nominations for his short La Guerra and documentary short Nuevos Tiempos. Oscar Faura (The Impossible, The Orphanage) is director of photography.
Mindscape follows a a man with the ability to enter peoples’ memories who takes on the case of a brilliant but troubled and dangerous teenage girl to determine whether she is a sociopath or a victim of trauma.
StudioCanal’s Olivier Courson said: ”We are delighted to see the first film out of Ombra starting to shoot. We strongly believe in our partnership with Jaume Collet-Serra, a very talented director and producer.”
