Mary Harron has started shooting The Moth Diaries in and around Montreal as of Aug 31. The film, a Canada-Ireland co-production, is adapted by Harron from the cult novel by Rachel Klein.

Lily Cole, Sarah Gadon, Sarah Bolger and Scott Speedman star in the gothic horror set at an elite boarding school.

The film’s shoot (on location) continues through Oct 8.

Producers are Sandra Cunningham of Strada Films, Karine Martin of Mediamax, and David Collins of Samson Films. Ronald Gilbert of Mediamax is the co-producer. Executive producers are Edward R. Pressman of Edward R. Pressman Film, Jean-François Doray and Louis-Simon Ménard of Mediabiz International.

Backers also include Telefilm Canada, The Irish Film Board, Mediabiz International, Future Films, the Harold Greenberg Fund and Windmill Lane.

Alliance Films is distributing in Canada and Lionsgate in the UK. Cinetic is handling for the US, while Wild Bunch is doing international sales.
