Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman is in final negotiations to star in thriller A Most Wanted Man for director Anton Corbijn.
Andrew Bovell (Lantana) adapted the screenplay from the best-seller by John le Carre.
Set in present-day Hamburg, the story is about a half-Chechen, half-Russian man who draws an innocent British banker and a young female lawyer into his web of intrigue. Hoffman plays the roguish chief of a secret German spy unit who is watching them.
Producers are Gail Egan and Andrea Calderwood for Potboiler Productions, Stephen and Simon Cornwell for Ink Factory and Malte Grunert for Amusement Park. Film4’s Tessa Ross will be executive producing.

His unique vision for le Carre’s complex and stylish story is very contemporary, very real, very human.”
Glen Basner, CEO of FilmNation Entertainment said: ”A Most Wanted Man is another masterpiece tale of intrigue and mystery from le Carre and given Anton’s previous successes we are confident that this movie will become the next highly-anticipated thriller.”
