Noah Taylor, Paddy Considine and Sally Hawkins will star in Warp Film’s Submarine, which started shooting today in Cardiff, Wales (October 26).
Michael Sheen, who was originally connected with the project, is no longer attached.
Submarine is the debut feature of British director and Screen Star of Tomorrow Richard Ayoade. Adapted from Joe Dunthorne’s coming of age novel set in Swansea, it follows 15 year old Oliver Tate (played by newcomer Craig Roberts) through the break up of his parents’ marriage and his first relationship. Shooting is due to take seven weeks.
Produced by Andy Stebbing, Mark Herbert and Mary Burke for Warp, the film is being executive produced by Ben Stiller, Stuart Cornfeld and Jeremy Kramer through Warp Films’ alliance with Red Hour Films. Also executive producing are Tessa Ross, Peter Carlton, Will Clarke, Linda James, Pauline Burt and Paul Higgins.
The project is backed by Film4, the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund, Wales Creative IP Fund and the Film Agency Wales.
Protagonist Pictures are handling international sales and Optimum Releasing will distribute the film in the UK.
